CME on Multilevel OSA Surgery, Improving surgical results in OSA Surgeries

The Puducherry Chapter of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI) hosted a highly informative Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on “OSA – Multilevel OSA Surgery, Multistage vs Single stage, Improving surgical results in OSA Surgeries” by Dr. Anand Raju, Head of Department of ENT at Kauvery Hospitals, Chennai on 29th November 2024 at the Accord Puducherry Hotel. The President of AOI Puducherry Chapter & Head of Department of ENT, Sri Venkateswara Medical college, Dr. Prabu V. commenced the event with a welcome address. This event was attended by leading experts, surgeons, and practitioners in otolaryngology. The speaker explored cutting-edge strategies and techniques for optimizing surgical outcomes in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The program featured engaging lectures, case discussions, and interactive sessions, focusing on advancements in surgical methods, patient evaluation, perioperative care, and the role of emerging technologies in OSA treatment. An interactive and informative question and answer session took place towards the end of the session. National CME Program, Voix de SLIMS

Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry successfully hosted a National CME programme, Voix de SLIMS, on April 20, 2024, in association with AOI Puducherry chapter. The event, with the theme “Resonate, Educate, Celebrate,” emphasized the importance of topics such as vocal health, different vocal pathologies and management modalities. The program featured an impressive lineup of expert speakers and interactive sessions, fostering engaging discussions on voice care and its essential role in vocal health. Attended by a vibrant group of delegates, the event was both enriching and inspiring, leaving a lasting impact on all who joined. The case discussion sessions were engaging and informative as the expert panelists shared tips and suggestions for improvement. CME on Case-Based Approach in Vertigo Management and Red Flags in Vertigo

The AOI Puducherry Chapter hosted an engaging session on 28th April 2023 at Hotel Accord, Puducherry, focusing on the topics “Case-Based Approach in Vertigo Management” and “Red Flags in Vertigo”. The event featured Dr. M. Balachandran, MD, DM (Neurology), a distinguished expert in neurological disorders, as the guest speaker. An insightful presentation highlighting the complexities of diagnosing and managing vertigo through a case-based approach was given by the speaker. He emphasized the importance of a systematic evaluation to differentiate between peripheral and central causes, tailoring treatment strategies to individual cases. The session also addressed critical “Red flags in vertigo”, enabling clinicians to identify serious underlying conditions requiring urgent attention. Attendees were guided through real-world scenarios, enhancing their diagnostic acumen and clinical decision-making. The event saw active participation from ENT specialists, and postgraduate students from all around the city, once the informative talk and case discussion concluded, there was an interactive Q&A session.

CME on Snoring, Sleep Apnea, and Allergic Rhinitis

The Indian Medical Association, Cuddalore Branch, in association with the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, Puducherry Chapter and Micro Labs Limited, organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on 2nd April 2023 at Le Pondy Resorts, Puducherry. The event featured two highly informative sessions by eminent speakers. Dr. Vijayakrishnan P, Head of the Department of Snoring and Sleep Disorders, MERF, Chennai, delivered a lecture on “Snoring and Sleep Apnea – Is it to be Worried?”. He shed light on the growing prevalence of sleep apnea, its impact on health, and the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. The second session, titled “Allergic Rhinitis – How to Breathe Easy, Live Freely?”, was presented by Dr. T. Anand Chokkalingam, ENT Consultant and Head and Neck Surgeon from Easwar Hospital, Ramanathapuram. He discussed effective strategies for managing allergic rhinitis, focusing on improving patients’ quality of life through timely treatment and preventive measures. The CME witnessed active participation from medical professionals across specialties, sparking engaging discussions and knowledge exchange. Cadaveric Workshop on Head and Neck Surgeries – IHRC, SBV

The Department of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery, in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, MGMCRI, Puducherry, organized a Cadaveric Workshop on Head and Neck Surgeries, in association with AOI, Puducherry Chapter on 20th January 2023 under the guidance of the Organizing Chairman Prof. Karthikeyan P, and Organizing Secretary, Prof Vijayasundaram S. The main aim of the workshop is to enhance the understanding of the intricate anatomy of the head and neck region while providing hands-on training using cadaveric specimen. Participants, including surgeons and postgraduate students, practiced advanced surgical techniques under the expertise of renowned faculty such as Dr C. Rayappa, Senior consultant, Dr D.Sriprakash, Dr S.Kannan, Consultants, Apollo cancer centre. An interesting and interactive lecture session was conducted by Dr. S Anand, ENT consultant & Head and neck surgeon, Westmead & Napeaen Hospital, Sydney during which he explored the different aspects of management of parotid tumors. Overall, this event featured both interesting academic sessions and case discussions, as well as hands on clinical skills training, offering a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, allowing ENT students and consultants to refine their practical expertise. Guest Lecture: Stroboscopy in Voice Disorders

The AOI Puducherry Chapter organized a highly informative guest lecture on “Stroboscopy in Voice Disorders” on 25th November 2022 at Residency Towers, Puducherry. The session was delivered by the esteemed Dr. Jawahar Nagasundaram, Consultant ENT and Head and Neck Surgeon, G Vishwanathan Hospitals, Trichy and Secretary, AOI Trichy, a renowned expert in voice disorders and stroboscopic evaluation. Points such as critical role of stroboscopy in diagnosing and managing various voice disorders, offering a detailed overview of its principles, applications, and interpretation techniques were highlighted. The lecture also emphasized how stroboscopy provides valuable insights into vocal fold vibrations and pathology, aiding in accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment strategies. The session included discussions on integrating stroboscopy into routine clinical practice, the latest advancements in the field, and common challenges faced during its use. The Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI), Puducherry Chapter organized an insightful session on 23rd September 2022, featuring a guest lecture by Dr. S. The topic, “Nuances in the Success of Sinonasal Endoscopic Surgeries” attracted ENT specialists, postgraduate students, and practitioners keen to deepen their knowledge of advanced surgical techniques. The session covered detailed surgical approaches, anatomical considerations, preoperative planning, and intraoperative precision. He also highlighted the role of technological advancements and addressed common challenges faced during surgeries, offering practical solutions. Academic Programme on Head & Neck Cancers

The Association of Otolaryngologists of India, Puducherry Chapter, in collaboration with Oncoheal Cancer Centre, Puducherry, organized an academic programme, on Sunday, 31st July 2022, at Hotel Accord, Puducherry. It included two eminent speakers, giving an insightful talk on cutting-edge treatments and multidisciplinary approaches in oncology. The first speaker of the day was Dr. P. Ravisankar, Surgical oncologist at Oncoheal Cancer Centre, speaking about “Recent Advances in Head and Neck Cancers”. The next expert talk was by Dr. Pandian Baskar Rao, Medical Oncologist, at Oncoheal Cancer Centre, on “Role of Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy in Head and Neck Cancers. Overall, the session was a wonderful platform for all attendees and professionals to discuss important strategies in the management of Head and Neck Cancers, making it a great success. Gallery

CME on Management of Chronic Rhinosinusitis, Allergic Fungal Rhinosinusitis, and Allergic Rhinitis

The IMA Cuddalore Branch, in collaboration with the AOI Puducherry Chapter and Micro Labs Limited, organized an insightful CME program at Le Pondy Resorts, Puducherry on 21.11.2021. The event featured two expert-led sessions on critical topics in ENT care. Dr. R. Muthukumar, Director and Professor at UIORL, Madras Medical College, Chennai, delivered an informative lecture on the “Management of Chronic Rhinosinusitis and AFRS”. He focused on the latest treatment strategies for chronic rhinosinusitis, the importance of accurate diagnosis, and advanced surgical and medical interventions. The second session, “Allergic Rhinitis – An Update”, was presented by Dr. M. Gowri Shankar, Professor and Head of the Department of ENT, Stanley Medical College, Chennai. He provided a comprehensive update on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of allergic rhinitis, highlighting new treatment modalities and approaches for improving patient outcomes. Webinar on “COVID-Associated Mucormycosis: Lessons Learnt”

The AOI Puducherry Chapter conducted a webinar on 27th June 2021, focusing on COVID-Associated Mucormycosis, a severe fungal infection that emerged as a significant complication during the COVID-19 pandemic. The session was delivered by the eminent Padmashri Prof. Mohan Kameswaran, Managing Director and Senior Consultant of Madras ENT Research Foundation (MERF), Chennai Prof. Kameswaran, a renowned figure in otorhinolaryngology, brought his wealth of experience to highlight the challenges posed by mucormycosis in post-COVID patients. Key points such as the link between COVID-19, immunosuppression, and the opportunistic fungal infection, the role of uncontrolled diabetes and steroid use in exacerbating the condition, the significance of judicious steroid use in COVID-19 management and the need for heightened awareness and early intervention to prevent fatalities were discussed. The attendees included ENT specialists, head and neck surgeons, and other healthcare professionals. It was a valuable learning for managing similar challenges in the future.
